UnTXT Chrome Extension — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 July 2026 · Applies to the "UnTXT — AI Detector & Writing Checker" Chrome extension
In one sentence: the extension only ever sees text you explicitly select or paste into it; without an account that text never leaves your device, and with an account it is sent only to UnTXT's own servers to run the enhanced analysis and save your encrypted history.
What the extension does and does not access
- The extension has no content scripts — it cannot read the pages you visit.
- The only page text it ever receives is the selection you explicitly send via right-click → "Check with UnTXT", or text you paste into the side panel yourself.
- It does not collect browsing history, keystrokes, cookies, or any page content beyond that explicit selection.
Without an account (free trial checks)
Analysis runs entirely on your device using the extension's built-in detection engine. Your text is not transmitted anywhere. The only thing stored is a counter of how many free checks you have used, kept in Chrome's local extension storage on your device.
With a UnTXT account (signed in)
- Sign-in uses Google OAuth. We receive your Google account email and identifier to operate your UnTXT account; we never see your Google password.
- When you run a check while signed in, the text you submitted is sent over HTTPS to UnTXT's servers to run the enhanced AI-assisted signals and to save the analysis to your account history. One enhanced signal is computed using OpenAI's API as a data processor; the text excerpt (up to 1,500 characters) is processed for that analysis and is not used to train models (we call the API with storage disabled).
- Saved analyses are encrypted at rest with a per-user AES-256-GCM key. Your history is capped at the 100 most recent entries; you can delete any entry, at any time, from the history view at untxt.uk.
- Usage is metered against your plan's CVT credit allowance, so we store per-analysis usage records (word counts and credit amounts — not text) for billing.
Chrome permissions, explained
| Permission | Why the extension needs it |
contextMenus | Adds the right-click "Check with UnTXT" item on selected text — this is how your selection reaches the extension. |
sidePanel | Shows results in Chrome's side panel. |
storage | Stores your trial-check counter, sign-in session, and preferences on your device. |
identity | Runs the Google sign-in window when you choose to sign in. |
Host access to www.untxt.uk | Lets the signed-in extension talk to UnTXT's own API. The extension requests access to no other website. |
What we never do
- No selling or sharing of your data with third parties for advertising.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs inside the extension.
- No reading of pages you haven't explicitly selected text from.
- No use of your submitted text to train AI models.
Data retention and deletion
Trial counters and preferences live only in your browser and are removed when you uninstall the extension. Account history follows the UnTXT account rules: 100-entry cap, per-entry deletion, and full removal when your account is deleted.
